In Hollywood on February 21 and 22 four Gail Kowalski Jewelry by Gail, Inc. original designs were loaned to celebrities for the Academy Awards events. The jewelry was loaned as part of top fashion stylist Michael O’Connor’s Style Lab Jewelry Suite, a multi-million dollar gathering during which Mr. O’Conner accessorized stars with leading designer jewels.
Ms. Kowalski’s “Climbing Rose Necklace” containing 36 cts. of Morganite (also called “Pink Emerald”) in a large pear-shaped pendant suspended on a platinum and diamond neckpiece was worn by Oscar nominee Ethan Van Der Ryn’s wife. Ethan Van der Ryn is the sound editor who was nominated for Best Sound Editing in the film Argo. Van der Ryn won 2 Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and King Kong. In 2012 he was nominated for sound editing in the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
Maria Sharapova, the highest-paid female athlete in the world, currently ranked world no. 3 in women’s tennis, was loaned the nearly 4 inches in length “Staircase to Royalty Amethyst Earrings.” The 6”2” tennis star said she planned to wear them at the Academy Awards parties following the Academy Awards ceremonies. Unfortunately, however, they did not go with the dress she finally selected for the event, and were returned to Mr. O’Connor.
Laurel Ripley, the Oscars on-air commentator for TNT, wore a pair of 4 carat total weight Jewelry by Gail Champagne Diamond Stud Earrings.
Gail’s Sugar & Champagne Diamond Ring set with 26 Champagne and colorless diamonds was loaned to Julie Plec, one of the creators of Vampire Diaries, who wore it at a post-Oscars AIDS charity party hosted by Elton John.
When asked to comment about this honor, Ms. Kowalski responded “We are especially thrilled because the Oscars consist of extremely fierce competition not just among the nominees but also among jewelry designers wishing placement.”
